To the east is the sheer cliff face of Salcombe Hill. To the west is the rising mound of High Peak. And in the middle is the small town of Sidmouth, Devon, surrounded on either side by eroded cliffs and dramatic rocks. If you’re looking for the Jurassic Coast, this is definitely it!
Named after the River Sid where it tumbles into the Channel, there have been settlements at Sidmouth since at least the Iron Age, no doubt because of its strategic coastal position. But it was only in the 18th and 19th centuries, when seaside resorts came into vogue, that Sidmouth became a popular tourist destination. People flocked here from across the country, not just to enjoy the good sea air but also to admire the impressive coastal vistas. Countless authors were inspired by visits to Sidmouth, from Thomas Hardy and William Makepeace Thackeray to H.G. Wells and Beatrix Potter. And it’s easy to see why!
This design shows Sidmouth Beach from a viewpoint on Salcombe Hill. Waves break against the shore, and the red rocks of High Peak jut into the sea – a beautiful scene to enjoy as you dry the dishes!
Half Panama unbleached cotton (heavy weight, textured finish). Stitched on all four sides. Includes hanging loop. Measures approximately 19in x 28in (48cm x 70cm),. Machine wash at 40 degrees max. We recommend that before you use your tea towel for the first time you wash it at least once to soften up the material and make it more absorbent for drying dishes.
